Holiday Gift Guide 2022

annavocino.substack.com

Attention Premium Substack Subscribers!!

I had so much fun on the last one making Coconut Crusted Shrimp with Mango Salsa, I wanna do it again!

We will be making Sausage Cheddar Balls and Egg Nog. Come hang out even if you don’t feel like cooking, and let’s have a virtual holiday party.

Tuesday 12/13 at 7pm Eastern (4pm Pacific).

I’ll send the Zoom link the morning of 12/13 to Premium Subscribers only. You can become a premium subscriber for $5 a month or $50 for the year and get access to additional recipes and fun activities like this one. Plus you can pat yourself on the back knowing you’re keeping me in the kitchen inventing new recipes.

2022 GIFT GUIDE!!

To loosely paraphrase Michael Pollan…I like stuff, not too much of it, mostly for the kitchen.

Here are some ideas for your holiday shopping. Some of the links below are affiliate links and some are not. Affiliate links means the vendor sends me a tiny percentage of the sale. You are under no obligation to use these links.

I didn’t have time to curate pictures of every item, so just click through and check things out. This is a fun list of fun stuff!

HERE WE GO…

OF COURSE I’M GONNA SUGGEST MY BELOVED EAT HAPPY KITCHEN ITEMS FIRST!!

(order by 12/18 to ensure Xmas delivery in the lower 48)

Sauce variety three pack $81 (Marinara, Puttanesca, and Crema…the three wise guys of delicious no-sugar added tomato sauces)

Spice variety three pack $33 (Taco, BBQ, and the Dill Ranch Seasoning…the three amigos of badass spice blends)

My cookbooks Eat Happy and Eat Happy Too are available for the lowest price NOT at amazon, but at my distributors. You’ll have to pay a few bucks shipping, but dang, still cheaper than the full price amazon is charging!

BOOKS

Who doesn’t love Ina Garten? Her new cookbook Go-To Dinners just came out, and it’s on my wish list.

The Science of Spice is another one on my wish list. I’ve never seen so many five star reviews. And I love a hardcover cookbook!

I love memoirs, and I adored reading Minnie Driver’s Managing Expectations. She spills the tea, and I loved the ride!

One of my fave nonfiction books of 2022 is Breath by James Nestor. I am hyper aware of my slack-jawed mouth breathing, and Nestor explains why this is a problem and what to do about it. He narrates the audiobook too, which is a great listen.

The Humane Table is on my wishlist as well this season. Advocates of pasture raised, grass-fed meat producers, this cookbook looks right up my alley.

KITCHEN & FOOD & WINE STUFF

You will be obsessed with everything from Farmhouse Pottery. Their mugs are next level gorgeous. I have this Silo pitcher on proud display in the back of my livestream videos, and have this crock on my wishlist this year.

This large, flat-bottomed, nonstick sauté pan will become your most used pan in the kitchen (by All-Clad).

If since going low carb, your beautiful Kitchen-Aid stand mixer is gathering dust, ask for this meat grinder attachment to make your own burger blends and sausage.

This Chaffle Maker is actually a waffle maker, but in these parts, it’s a Chaffle Maker. ‘Nuff said.

These Leather Wrapped Old-Fashioned Tumblers are the best way to drink whiskey (I gave Loren a set of the British Tan ones last year). Also Lonetree SB is a great site for anything interior design. Michelle designed my house (you’ve seen my kitchen), so good luck surfing her site and not buying something you want for yourself.

Don’t forget about the best olive oil on the planet, Villa Cappelli. A 3-liter tin really shows you care!

Eric Nielsen of Kompas Wine club curates the coolest, most affordable wines I’ve found, and almost all are organic and often biodynamic. Remember, all wines have some residual sugar, but Eric makes it a point to find wines that have the least amount and can customize your order.

Joey’s Hot Sauce is a like-minded company making a delicious hot sauce with high-quality ingredients…and no added sugar! They started the same way I did, looking for a clean hot sauce and not finding it, so they made a badass hot sauce that you guys will love.

I have a soft spot for cool shit made by cool women, and I know you’ll love these linens from Indigo Arrows in Manitoba, Canada. Just exquisite. And I guarantee no one you know has them!

CLOTHING BUT MOSTLY SOCKS

I love socks. I love giving socks as gifts. I love receiving socks as gifts. I think nice socks represent the fullest expression of my Taurean desire for comfort and luxurious practicality.

Men’s socks:

These hiking socks from REI are Loren’s every day winter sock.

These Gold Toe Fluffies are the ones to keep on hand for that one time a year you need to wear dress socks that don’t have holes in them.

Women’s socks:

These are technically house shoes (aka slippers), but any of these pairs from Top Drawer are chic, comfy goodness. And the kind of thing you treat others to and not yourself.

Cashmere socks from J. Crew. And some of them are on sale!!

The best yoga pants come from Beyond Yoga. I love any of them as long as they have the side pockets for the phone. I wear them almost every day of my life.

ART

Support great art in all its forms. Here are two painters and artisans whose work I love and repeatedly purchase:

Jenny Andrews Anderson. Gorgeous abstracts, irises, jellyfish, and color blocks that look good in every room of the house. Ridiculously low prices for beautiful art, but she has limited pieces, so get one before they sell out.

Jeannie Hayden. Whimsy, color, and thoughtful, winky, vintage-meets-fresh-optimism. Love her work, even if you can’t get a piece, you should click through to her site and enjoy. Jeannie also co-authored Be Prepared: A Practical Handbook for New Dads, which I gift to all of my friends expecting their first child.

STOCKING STUFFERS

The best lip gloss on the planet is back in stock (I just ordered 4 of them in case they run out again): Pat McGrath in Sunset Rose.

My fave coffee: Pure Coffee Club Double French Roast.

Just got this digital meat thermometer, and it works in about one second. Love this thing for not only its speed but its precision.

Baby whisks and tiny spatulas make the best stocking stuffers.

I love the smell and texture of these Botanical Bars from Nopalera, a kick-ass small business making kick-ass body products. These botanical bars are like a lotion and an oil in a bar that warms up with your skin and keeps you smelling fresh and feeling soft.

And lastly, when you’re done with your shopping, treat yourself and all your loved ones to this sleep mask and settle down for a long winter’s nap.

Next year’s holiday gift guide will only have one thing on it: my new cookbook.

Eat Happy Low Carb Italian (coming soon)…

XOXO

Anna Claus
